It Takes a Village: Protecting the Elderly from Abuse

Now more than ever, the vulnerabilities of elderly populations are clear. Older adults are more likely to suffer physical, emotional, and financial abuse. Trained advocates and family members can benefit from being able to recognize warning signs of abuse and knowing what steps to take when abuse is suspected. During COVID-19, awareness and advocacy for abuse prevention is possible and critically important. This web training will empower attendees with skills and knowledge to continue advocating while keeping social distance.

Attendees will learn:

• Requirements of residential, assisted living and skilled nursing facilities generally and in light of COVID-19;
• How to protect a loved one from a distance;
• Questions to ask for abuse prevention;
• How to identify potential abuse;
• Resources for abuse reporting and investigation; and
• Civil remedies available when abuse has occurred.
